I went to York the other day. It was a really nice little place. It used to be an old Roman settlement, so the place has a very rich history to it. These days its entirely dominated by old english architecture, but a lot of the main roads are built on the old roman roads. They have this huge minster there which is pretty cool, and all the streets have this nice old buildings and whathaveyou. York even has its own wall to stop intruders or something, but they still let me in, so really its not very useful at all!
I found a small museum where they showed you the remnants of an old roman bath that was kinda cool.
The other thing I did in York (the reason I went there in the first place) was go to the National Rail Museum. It is known as the 'biggest rail museum in the world' and after going there I can understand why. I spent 5 hours walking around that place. They have Mallard, The Flying Scotsman and many trains from all around the world there. I took heaps of photos. But yeah, it was really brilliant.
The past couple of nights we've gone out despite the cold. One night we went to this place called 'Revolution' which was just a bar, but the most expensive bar i've ever seen. I really didn't like it because bars aren't my thing at all, but it was good because I got to hang out with Matt and get to know him and his friends a bit.
Last night Esther and I went out with some of her uni friends because Monique (she is dutch) wanted to go out and eat 'real english fish and chips'. After wandering around we found this nice little pub that had decent meals and she got her fish and chips. I had this tasty burger, so I'm wanting to go back there. After dinner it was off to 'pub quiz' (they refuse to call it trivia for some reason) where we almost won, but again it was just nice to sit around and talk to Esther's friends and get to know them.
Today Esther's parents are arriving, so Esther is trying to get a whole bunch of work done before they're here. It'll be so strange when they arrive. Not a bad things they're coming, but it'll just be weird cause they're the people that 'live in that house near the city' to me. The only time I've seen them away from the house is once when they came to my house and once when we went to Narranderra with them, so them being on the other side of the world will be kinda strange.
